Ashton Winger opens up 2024 season at Volusia for Sunshine Nationals

Kicking off his 2024 season in Florida, Ashton Winger made the trip to Volusia Speedway Park (De Leon Springs, Fla.) on Friday afternoon for the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals opener after Thursday's event fell to heavy rain storms.

In a stacked field of 56 World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series entries, Winger qualified 13th-fastest in his group before falling back to seventh in his heat race. Being buried in a Last Chance Showdown, Ashton retired from the event early.

Laying down the seventh-quickest lap in Saturday's group, Ashton earned an A-Main spot after picking up the final transfer position in his heat race. For the $15,000 payday, Winger ran as high as eighth before slipping just outside the Top-10 when the checkered flag flew.
