Top-10 finish in fourth round of Winternationals at East Bay

Monday night saw Ashton Winger return to action at East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) behind the wheel of the Ken Monahan-owned No. 311A Late Model entry for the 45th annual Wrisco Winternationals. In a stout field of 76 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Winger posted a sixth place finish in his heat race, sending him into the B-Main for another shot at the opening night feature. Transferring the Top 2 into the show, Ashton was an early retiree from the 12-lapper on the sixth lap.

For another $5,000-to-win preliminary feature on Tuesday afternoon, Ashton timed in 14th fastest in his qualifying group before placing fourth in his heat. Needing a second place finish or better in his B-Main to make the A-Main, Winger came one spot shy with a third-place outing.

On Wednesday evening, Winger fell two spots short of a transfer position in his heat race with a fifth-place finish. Rolling off third in his B-Main, Ashton was running in third when Mother Nature made an appearance and postponed the remainder of the program to Thursday evening. He ended up withdrawing from the remainder of the 10-lapper.

For the fourth round of the Wrisco Winternationals on Thursday, Ashton posted a fourth place finish in his heat, giving him one last shot at the feature with a B-Main appearance. Locking in the Top 2, Winger streaked to a 10-lap consolation victory, which positioned him 20th on the starting grid for the $7,000-to-win A-Main. Wheeling his way into the Top-10, Ashton passed 10 cars in the 40-lapper to register a 10th-place finish. (Mike Horne photo)

The following night, Winger was an early retiree from his heat on the sixth lap, sending him into the B-Main for one final shot at the $12,000-to-win A-Main. Slated to start near the tail, Ashton made the decision to scratch from the 10-lapper to save equipment.
